“Late Show” host Stephen Colbert on Wednesday spotted a baffling comment President Donald Trump made this week while attempting to praise first lady Melania Trump.
“See that movie, it became number one. She then went to streaming, it became number one,” Trump said, referring to the “Melania” documentary. “I say there’s only room ― remember this ― for one star in a family, so I better get rid of that. That’s not so good!”
The comment puzzled Colbert.
“Better get rid of that?” he asked. “That’s a pretty weird thing to say to your wife.”
Then, Colbert shared a greeting card from the president to the first lady.
“Roses are red. I love a gardenia. Time for you to go back to Slovenia,” he read.
That wasn’t the only Trump family member Colbert mocked in his second-to-last episode. Earlier in the segment, when noting that the Trump cellphone was finally out after a nine-month delay, he said: “The only Trump item more disappointing after a nine-month wait was Eric.”
After the audience laughed, Colbert turned to the camera and added one final dig.
“You know, I’ve said a lot of mean things about Eric over the years,” he said, seemingly setting up an apology.
None was forthcoming as he turned away from the camera and continued the segment.
