President Donald Trump is getting called out over his absolute crash-out on “Meet the Press” after he attacked host Kristen Welker for questioning his absurd election claims before storming out of the interview.
In the wild closing moments of the interview, the president used the word “crooked” to describe elections, major news networks and Welker herself in a tantrum seemingly fueled by her fact-checking.
“You’re a one-sided crooked network. Sorry. Let’s call it quits because I’ve had enough. Thank you, darling. Have a good time,” said Trump as he took his mic off his blazer, tossed it to the ground and dismissively waved off Welker as she pleaded with him to continue.
“I’ve sat in the rain with you,” said Trump, pointing to rain hitting the metal roof of a Wisconsin farm building that served as the site of the interview.
“I traveled all the way to Wisconsin,” Welker said.
“I sat in the rain with you for an hour,” he continued. “On and off in the rain, and I’ve given you enough time. You ought to straighten out your press, because you know what? A country can never be great with a dishonest press.”
He then signaled for his team to leave, got up from his seat and appeared to step on the mic as he made his way out. Trump has since agreed to another interview as a result of “complications” from the rain, according to Welker.
CNN’s Jake Tapper weighed in on the clip and called out Trump’s “wild, unhinged” behavior before remarking on Welker, whose interview marks another example of the president’s history of attacking female reporters.
“Welker is a good person and honest journalist and didn’t deserve that but more importantly we have a president who constantly pushes conspiracy theories with zero evidence and can’t respond when politely challenged on that,” Tapper wrote on X.
Journalist Ahmed Baba used the clip to declare that the president “unravels when his delusional unreality faces the slightest pushback.”
He wrote, “When he’s out of his sycophantic bubble, he’s forced to grapple with the fragility of his lies, the backlash to his overreach, and his mounting political weakness. He can’t handle the truth.”
And other critics cracked that “dude is losing his shit” and described his behavior as “demented and deranged.”
