Donald Trump may not want to thumb through the latest edition of his hometown newspaper.

In a letter published by The Palm Beach Post, one reader blasted the president over his controversial intervention in the World Cup.

David Clendining slammed Trump’s decision to urge FIFA to review U.S. striker Folarin Balogun’s red-card suspension.

The ban was ultimately suspended after a review by a single FIFA disciplinary official, allowing Balogun to play in the round of 16. The United States, however, went on to suffer a crushing 4-1 defeat to Belgium, whose players later mocked Trump both on and off the pitch.

Clendining opened his letter, headlined “Trump red flags World Cup,” with a pointed question: “Even soccer?”

He then answered it himself: “Yes, even soccer.”

“Our president who was the recipient of a made-up peace award from FIFA, now has put his stink on the World Cup, which to this point has been a wonderful event,” he continued.

Clendining, who lives in Loxahatchee, about 18 miles northwest of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, argued that the president put “his corrupt thumb on the scale” and cast “a dark cloud” over the U.S. team’s World Cup campaign.
