Police dashcam footage captured Britney Spears struggling through field sobriety tests before officers handcuffed her during a March 4 DUI arrest.
The never-before released footage was shared online May 21 by TMZ and showed the pop princess engaged with officers after she was pulled over over for allegedly swerving between lanes. Shortly after being pulled over, Spears invited police to her home, according to the footage.
“I’ll make you food, a lasagna, whatever you want,” she said, according to the footage. “I have a pool.”
Police spent several minutes with the star before she participated in a field sobriety test and appeared to fail. Footage captured the police placing Spears under arrest and leading her away in handcuffs.
She walked off frame but audio captured her asking if the police had taken her phone, but they advised that it was in her purse, according to the video.
A police officer said Spears admitted to drinking a mimosa before getting behind the wheel but told them, “I could probably drink four bottles of wine and take care of you. I’m an angel.” according to a police report obtained by TMZ.
Police dispatch audio revealed concerned drivers called authorities after spotting someone driving erratically. According to the police report, officers detected the “distinct odor of an alcoholic beverage” while interacting with Spears. The report also stated that the singer admitted to taking Adderall, Prozac and Lamictal that day. An officer said she blew under the legal limit on a pair of breathalyzer tests taken at the station.
Spears agreed to a plea deal May 4, reducing her DUI charge to a “wet reckless” charge, a reckless driving offence connected to alcohol, according to TMZ.
She was ordered to maintain her mental health and substance abuse treatment program, and told to take a DUI class. As part of her plea deal, Spears must also meet with a psychologist once weekly an a psychiatrist twice monthly, according to TMZ.
She was slapped with state-mandated fees and fines, and received a 12-month probation term with strict conditions not to possess drugs without a valid prescription. (RELATED: Britney Spears Narrowly Evades Jail Time)
