Former star from the hit TV series “Dawson’s Creek,” actor James Van Der Beek, criticized the Democratic National Committee for their decision to shield President Joe Biden from the challenges of a primary debate.

This development coincides with the rise of unconventional figures within the party, such as Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. and Marianne Williamson, who have garnered notable support in primary polls since declaring their presidential campaigns.

What About Our Democracy?

Van Der Beek, in rare form compared to other celebrities in Hollywood who would never dare question the Democratic Party, made it very clear in his video that this avoidance made a mockery of our system, especially as Memorial Day had just occurred.

“I mean, what the hell? How is this a democracy?” he said. “I cannot get over the fact that the Democratic National Committee is saying there will not be a debate to decide the nominee for president. Are you f***ing kidding me? There’s no debate?”

“There’s no debate over an 80-year-old man who, if he lives, will be the oldest sitting president in the history of the country? And if he doesn’t live, has a Vice President whose approval rating is worse than his?” he added. “This guy has obviously declining mental faculties. You’re putting him up in front of a podium with flashcards telling him who to call on and what the questions are going to be. And you’re telling us there’s no debate? What about the will of the people?”

“If we don’t have a debate, this is not a democracy by the people, this is a democracy by them. For who? Big banks? Big business? Big tech, big pharma, big government, big whatever. Think and do your f***ing job before you start posting about how grateful you are. There are people out there who are willing to die to preserve democracy, cause you are not preserving democracy right now. You are shoehorning your pick and forcing it on the rest of us.”

Van Der Beek went to the extent of expressing his belief that if Biden were to secure another presidential term, he would not be considered a “legitimate president” due to his avoidance of facing Democrat primary voters.

The Field so Far

Democratic candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. appears to have solidified his presence in the political landscape, as recent polling indicates Democratic voters aren’t too jazzed for re-electing President Biden in 2024.

Kennedy’s polling numbers have remained steady ever since he launched his 2024 presidential campaign. According to the most recent Fox News Poll conducted this week, Kennedy has garnered significant traction, capturing 16% of the Democratic primary vote. This sizable portion of support reflects the strength of his candidacy as a primary challenger against an incumbent president.

Meanwhile, President Biden’s second primary challenger, author Marianne Williamson, whom he already competed against in 2020, has secured 8% of the vote. In comparison, Biden’s support among Democratic primary voters has remained stagnant, holding steady at 62% since April.
