The coroner’s office revealed AIDS to be the cause of death for Daveigh Chase, voice actress best known for her role in “Lilo and Stitch.”
The former child actor passed away from “Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome,” commonly known as AIDS, at the age of 35, according to the County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner. The website also lists “chronic polysubstance use” as a significant condition the actress suffered from at the time of her death, and notes that she passed away from natural causes in a hospital. The actress’s boyfriend, Roy Hernandez, confirmed her death to TMZ on June 17, originally sighting the cause of death as Meningitis.
Chase’s father, John David Schwalier, told The New York Times on June 17 that Chase has suffered from issues with drugs since the age of 13. He also said he and Chase had not spoken with one another since she was 19. He made contact with Hernandez and reached Los Angeles Medical General center, where Chase was receiving care, shortly prior to her death, according to the Times.
Chase was best known for her voice acting role in “Lilo & Stitch,” as well as roles in “The Ring,” “Donnie Darko,” and “Spirited Away.”
