Democratic National Committee Vice Chair Malcolm Kenyatta blasted Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) on Saturday, urging him to “do the decent thing and quit” after multiple controversies, including his frequent appearances on right-wing outlets to trash-talk his party.
“I want John to do the job that he has right now, and if he cannot do that job or he doesn’t want to do the job, then do the decent thing and quit,” Kenyatta said on “The Dean Obeidallah Show” Saturday. “And then you can spend all day on Fox News. You can be there from the morning till the evening.”
The Pennsylvania lawmaker has received some harsh backlash in recent months for criticizing other Democrats on Fox News. He took it a step further by making a virtual appearance at this year’s Republican National Committee midterm convention to support Sen. Dave McCormick (R-Pa.)
“So when I saw John show up to the Republican convention, praising a president who has cut the healthcare of millions of Americans, not only was I angry, I was disgusted,” Kenyatta said.
A recent Wall Street Journal report also fueled that backlash by highlighting Fetterman’s seeming disinterest in the job and his failure to meet constituent duties. In one reported instance, Fetterman allegedly prioritized a Fox News interview over meeting with paralyzed veterans.
Kenyatta, who ran against Fetterman in the Pennsylvania Democratic Senate primary in 2022, told Obeidallah that the lawmaker “has not changed” and never wanted to do the job, even when he was lieutenant governor.
“He had the single worst attendance record of any lieutenant governor in the history of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and all you have to do is stand at the dang rostrum. He couldn’t show up to stand at a rostrum,” Kenyatta scathed. “All he could do was to try to promote himself and push out an image of himself that is disconnected from the reality of who he is.”
Despite his brutal criticism of the Democratic Party, Fetterman says he won’t turn Republican unless his party becomes overtly anti-Israel.
“John is a political tourist to the needs of working people and working families,” Kenyatta added.
