ESPN analyst Chiney Ogwumike claimed WNBA center A’ja Wilson’s greatness is more impressive than NFL legend Tom Brady’s on her show “Chiney Today.”
While trying to contextualize how dominant Wilson has been in recent years, Ogwumike said Wednesday, “Losing doesn’t even exist in her life … All she does is win and then elevates her winning.”
Guest Brandon Newman then offered a comparison: “It’s appropriate that Tom Brady is getting into ownership over there because it’s Tom Brady levels of boring how good she is.””
Ogwumike immediately responded.
“I disagree — I think A’ja is more,” she said, before stopping herself to acknowledge she was about to deliver a hot take. “His winning is boring — that doesn’t apply [to Wilson]. A’ja is more interesting than Tom Brady to me.”
She added: “A’ja is that girl. Not saying Tom is not that dude, but A’ja is that girl — yes, queen, queen, queen.” (RELATED: WNBA Commissioner Sticks Up For Alyssa Thomas After She Was Suspended For Flagrant Foul On Caitlin Clark)
Wilson, 29, is a 6-foot-4 center for the Las Vegas Aces. She is the first player to win four WNBA MVP awards and has won three WNBA titles.
Brady, who was drafted four years after Wilson was born, is widely considered the greatest quarterback in NFL history. He won seven Super Bowls and three MVP awards and holds multiple records, including the all-time passing yards and touchdown records.
The WNBA has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons, most recently with the league’s commissioner seemingly siding with Alyssa Thomas over Caitlin Clark after Thomas was suspended for a hard foul on Clark.
