Late-night host John Oliver is headed to daytime.
The “Last Week Tonight” host will guest star on the long-running daytime soap opera “General Hospital” in a three-episode storyline, which will air July 2, 3 and 6.
Oliver announced the casting on the June 28 episode of “Last Week Tonight” after previously voicing his interest to star in the daytime drama back in March.
“When John Oliver publicly threw down the gauntlet and said he wanted to appear on a soap, we didn’t hesitate for a second. He was everything you’d hope he’d be: prepared, professional, funny and genuinely kind to everyone on set,” “General Hospital” executive producer Frank Valentini said in a statement. “He plays an integral character in the story, and I can’t wait for fans to see who he crosses paths within Port Charles.”
Airing weekdays on ABC and streaming on Hulu, “General Hospital” is on its 64th year, making it both the longest-running scripted American drama and longest-running American soap opera currently in production. The series has also earned the most Outstanding Daytime Drama award wins, receiving the Daytime Emmy Award 18 times.
“’General Hospital’ was everything I hoped it would be. It’s a true honor to be a small stain on the history of this illustrious show,” Oliver said.
The soap was created by Frank and Doris Hursley. Frank Valentini serves as the executive producer, with Elizabeth Korte and Chris Van Etten as the co-head writers.
“Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” is currently on its 13th season, airing Sundays on HBO and is available to stream on HBO Max. The HBO Original has earned 32 Emmys, three Peabody Awards, two GLAAD Media Awards, nine Writers Guild Awards and nine PGA Awards.
