“We are disappointed to learn of Jonathon Cooper’s arrest on Thursday and continue to review this matter,” said the Broncos in an official statement, per ESPN.
Having an on-and-off relationship for years, the couple was at the residence of Cooper when the girlfriend engaged in a confrontation regarding alleged infidelity by the Denver linebacker. Cooper’s phone was grabbed by the woman and then tossed at a wall; however, she ultimately picked it up again and went through it, according to TMZ, citing the arrest affidavit.
There was then a struggle for the phone between Cooper and the woman, with Cooper getting back control of the phone. From there, he demanded the woman exit his house, allegedly telling her that he’d break her mobile device, per TMZ citing the probable cause affidavit.
Following the woman’s refusal to leave, he allegedly smashed and broke her iPhone screen, per the affidavit.
