Leonardo DRS, Inc. (NASDAQ:DRS) announced September 17 that it had signed a contract with Doosan Enerbility to supply electric propulsion for South Korea’s KDDX destroyer program. The award covers propulsion motors and the electronic drives that control them.
The broader program is expected to include at least six destroyers. That creates a potential market for Leonardo DRS, Inc. (NASDAQ:DRS), but the announcement does not establish funded orders covering all six ships. The investment question is whether this selection can develop into a profitable series of equipment and support contracts.
Bull Case

The company says its hybrid electric drive systems have been provided for 20 Korean frigates across the FFX Batch II, III and IV programs. That experience strengthens the commercial case for winning work on another naval platform.
