On Friday, the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, Trump fired off about a dozen posts and reposts, including his own video message recorded on Jan. 6, 2021, to the rioters attacking the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to block the certification of the election results.
In the video, Trump repeated his false claims about the 2020 election, then told the rioters to “go home in peace.”
“We love you,” he said in the video. “You’re very special.”
During a media gaggle on Air Force One on Sunday, a reporter asked the president what message he was trying to send by reposting that video.
“Well, I posted about 30,” Trump answered. “Which one are you talking about?”
“You posted a video you took and posted on January 6th asking the rioters to go back home,” she reminded him.
“The who?” Trump asked.
“The rioters of January 6th of 2021,” the reporter repeated.
“I don’t know what she’s talking about,” Trump said.
