Stephen Colbert flipped the script on Wednesday’s second-to-last episode of “The Late Show” as a string of celebrities turned his regular “Colbert Questionert” segment back on him.
When it was Oscar-winning actor Robert De Niro’s turn to ask Colbert a run-of-the-mill question that the outgoing late-night host usually asks his famous guests, the outspoken Donald Trump critic asked: “What number were you thinking of?”
Colbert offered a long-winded response:
“There’s a hint as to what the answer is, because whenever somebody answers the question and gives the wrong answer, I always say no; and when I give the right answer, which has happened at least twice — Meryl Streep and Ethan Hawke guessed correctly — and Ethan Hawke goes immediately, ‘I know what it is. It’s three.’ That’s the number I was thinking of.”
“OK,” De Niro deadpanned.
Then he delivered the punchline: “Because I thought it would have been two million point five, or two and a half million. That’s the number of Epstein files Trump still hasn’t released.”
